Steam Methane Reformer (SMR)
A fired furnace designed to promote the catalytic reaction between methane (CH₄) and steam (H₂O) at high temperature to produce a gas mixture primarily composed of hydrogen (H₂) and carbon monoxide (CO). The resulting gas mixture is called synthesis gas (syngas) and is mainly used for hydrogen production in refineries and for ammonia and methanol manufacturing.
